Outcrop of the late Cretaceous La Luna Formation in the Magdalena Valley Basin in Colombia. The outcrop here consists of intercalations of beds of organic-rich fine-grained calcareous and siliceous rocks. These rocks have a strong sulfur smell and some hydrocarbon-filled fractures. Carbonate concretion horizons are common features of the upper of La Luna Formation and its equivalents along the basin. Photo courtesy of Henry Galvis.
