Immature, oil-prone source rocks in the Upper Cretaceous Seabee Formation on Umiat Mountain along the Colville River. The dark gray, organic-rich shale is interbedded with lighter gray, yellow-weathering volcanic ash beds, including the thick bed on which hammer is resting. Location ~100 mi. southwest of Prudhoe Bay.
